2019 Annual Event

Our outgoing Chairman Mr Wyn Llewellyn talking to Jonathan Edward’s MP Carmarthen East and Dinefwr

The big news this month is another successful annual event with around 500 members attending the National Botanical Gardens.  We featured themes based on the priority issues raised by members, with keynote contributions from Welsh Government minister Julie Morgan and Dr Charles Musselwhite of Swansea University’s Centre for Innovative Ageing.  Key areas were Health and Wellbeing and also getting online. We had a large digital presence from local and national businesses, Dyfed-Powys Police, Carmarthenshire council and volunteer organisations.  All of their events and presentations were well received.

On the health front, there were demonstrations and taster sessions for gentle exercises, with many health-related stalls, giving help and information on a range of topics. CUSP (Carmarthenshire United Support Project) stalls were aimed at keeping people independent and as healthy as possible in their own homes. Overall a great success despite the awful weather.

With other presentations on mobility and access to transport, preventing loneliness and social isolation, help with Ancestry Research and over 30 Exhibitors and Workshops across these key areas, there was something for everyone.

We trust that those of you who attended had a thoroughly satisfying, enjoyable and engaging day despite the dull weather. Tell all your friends and acquaintances about it and encourage them to join the 50+ Forum. It will make our voice stronger if we have more members in the Forum.

Your views matter.  If you have any views on the success of the last Annual Event, or on how we should proceed next year then please let us know.  Should we have another event next year?  If so, what are the important issues for you that you would like to see featured? How can the event be improved? Should we do something completely different?  As transport is easily half of the cost is it money well spent?  Get in touch and let us know what you think…
